resume tips

  1. A resume should always reflect the job description. For example, if the job description asks for Microsoft Word skills and you have Microsoft Word experience, don’t just put down “strong computer skills” on your resume. Instead, put down that you have Microsoft Word experience!

  2. Always make sure that your resume follows a logical order and doesn’t jump around. Otherwise, your resume will be overly difficult for the hiring manager to read. When a resume jumps around too much it can send up a red flag. Too many red flags and the interview is lost.

  3. Always be honest with your qualifications.

  4. Be honest but don’t understate your accomplishments.

  5. Don’t have a standard resume you send to everyone. Make sure your resume is tailored to the position. For example, a candidate whose resume notes that their goal is to find a position in the automotive industry (which is fine), but proceeds to apply for jobs in the plastics industry (not fine!). What plastics company would hire this candidate on the pretense that the minute an automotive position became available they would likely leave?
